ALBA E-Waste to implement a nationwide collection system for E-Waste
Singapore, 30 June 2021 – As the appointed Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) Operator for electrical and electronic waste (E-Waste), ALBA E-Waste Smart Recycling Pte Ltd will officially collect Regulated E-Waste[1] across Singapore for proper treatment and recycling starting on 1 July 2021, for a period of five years, until 30 June 2026. Update of Soft Launch at Selected Outlets
On 4 June 2021, the National Environment Agency (NEA) and ALBA E-Waste jointly announced the soft launch of e-waste recycling bins at nine selected Dairy Farm Group and Harvey Norman outlets. As of 29 June 2021, more than a tonne of e-waste has been collected, comprising mainly printers, mobile phones, light bulbs and personal computers.
Mr Fons Krist, ALBA E-Waste’s General Manager, said: “We are heartened to see that the soft launch is a great success, with nearly a tonne of e-waste collected within a span of a few weeks. Through the nationwide collection system that we have set up, we hope to see similar responses across Singapore as recycling e-waste becomes more convenient and accessible everywhere. In doing so, we aim to encourage the habit of recycling and to create a more resource efficient society, where precious raw materials are recovered from the waste we generate.”
Collection Avenues to Recycle Your E-Waste
ALBA E-Waste has set up a range of collection channels for the public and businesses to recycle their Regulated E-Waste conveniently. These channels include:
- More than 300 E-Waste receptacles (known as ‘E-Bins’) stationed at publicly accessible locations (Refer to Annex C for working list of deployed E-Bins)
- Removal of large household appliances through the bulky waste disposal services provided by Town Councils
- Quarterly collection drives held at residential estates
- Doorstep collection of Regulated E-Waste
- Drop off at ALBA E-Waste depot at 20 Tuas Loop, Singapore 637350
Members of the public can also recycle their Regulated E-Waste with the Participating Retailers under the RSA through the following channels:
- Free one-for-one take-back of discarded end-of-life products of the same type provided by retailers upon delivery of a new product
- Over-the-counter collection services provided by retailers at some of their outlets
Via the above channels, ALBA E-Waste will collect the Regulated E-Waste and transport it to a dedicated Sorting and Logistics Hub for subsequent categorization and weighing. Following that, the Regulated E-Waste will be sent to selected recyclers locally for recycling and material recovery. The recyclers have been screened to ensure they adhere to strict data sanitisation standards. All data in data storing devices will be deleted or destroyed through mechanisms such as degaussing, shredding and puncturing. Records of all data sanitisation processes will be kept and audited.

One-Stop Platform for all
ALBA E-Waste is also thrilled to announce the launch of its website, www.alba-ewaste.sg. Created with the user experience in mind, the site includes many features to help users easily navigate the site and find the information they need such as:
- Map of the E-Bins deployed across Singapore
- Types of Regulated E-Waste
- Schedule of collection drives
- To arrange for a doorstep collection
- List of Participating Retailers under the Retailer Take-Back Scheme
- Downloadable Content (E.g. Brochure, Posters, Advisory)
The multi-purpose site has been designed to offer visitors a seamless and intuitive experience as they explore and learn more about what kind of E-Waste they can recycle and where.
ALBA STEP UP App
Not only is recycling made simple, members of the public can now also be rewarded with points if they recycle Regulated E-Waste through the ALBA STEP UP app. Users of the app can look for a QR code at ALBA E-Waste’s collection channels, scan it and take a picture of the Regulated E-Waste they drop offto be rewarded with points. The points can then be accumulated and exchanged for discounts and deals with our partners.
Additionally, the app also enables users to find the location of the nearest recycling point, check out upcoming events such as collection drives and even learn more about recycling.
From its multiple collection channels to its informative and rewarding platforms, ALBA E-Waste aims to integrate the habit of recycling, thus enabling Singapore to move towards a Zero Waste Nation.
Guidelines on Recycling Regulated E-Waste
When recycling through ALBA E-Waste’s collection channels, it is advised to take note of the following:
- Check via our website (alba-ewaste.sg) that your E-Waste is Regulated and therefore accepted by ALBA E-Waste collection channels
- Erase all data on any data-storing device
- Drop off only your Regulated E-Waste with us, do not store them in a box or wrap them in plastic
- For any damaged/contaminated Regulated E-Waste, place them carefully in a secure container before dropping them off
