Protect Our Planet: Safe and Secure E-Waste Recycling
ALBA E-Waste launches a six-month trial of ALBA Secure-Recycle, Singapore’s first secure data-bearing device recycling program with end-to-end data assurance with new partners Pick! and SPX Express
New secure e-waste collection channels through Pick! lockers and SPX Express service points
Singapore, 10 October 2026 – International E-Waste Day (IEWD) 2026 was commemorated today at Kampung Admiralty, with the theme “Protect Our Planet: Safe and Secure E-Waste Recycling.” Co-organised by ALBA E-Waste Smart Recycling Pte Ltd (ALBA E-Waste) and the National Environment Agency (NEA), IEWD 2026 is one of four satellite events organised in support of Clean & Green Singapore (CGS), culminating in CGS Day 2026 on 21 November. The annual IEWD continues to raise awareness of responsible e-waste recycling and encourages the public to recycle e-waste through safe, proper and trusted channels.
This year’s theme highlights two important aspects of responsible e-waste recycling. The first is safe recycling practices, including proper handling of rechargeable batteries and devices with built-in batteries, which should be placed in e-waste bins rather than other types of bins to prevent battery-related fire risks. The second is secure recycling solutions that safeguard personal data throughout the recycling process, from device collection through to data destruction. The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment and Ministry of Education
A key highlight of IEWD 2026 was the official launch of a six-month trial of ALBA Secure-Recycle. This is a new collection programme that offers the public a more secure and traceable way to recycle data-bearing devices such as mobile phones, laptops and tablets. During the trial, participants can deposit eligible devices in selected participating Pick! lockers and SPX Express service points, with the collection journey tracked through to authorised recycling and data destruction. The trial will allow ALBA E-Waste and its partners to assess their interest and review operational processes before considering a wider rollout.

Through ALBA Secure-Recycle, members of the public will have higher visibility of the recycling journey of their devices, from the time they are deposited at collection points to processing by licensed recyclers. Upon successful recycling and destruction, users will receive a Certificate of Destruction, giving added assurance that their data-bearing devices have been handled securely.
Mr Philip Tan, Deputy General Manager of ALBA E-Waste, said at the launch, “As e-waste recycling becomes more visible in everyday life, members of the public are increasingly concerned not only about where to recycle, but also whether their personal data will be handled securely. ALBA Secure-Recycle addresses this concern by offering a more secure and traceable collection channel for data-bearing devices, while making it more convenient for the public to recycle responsibly.”
